The wine:
Terredora di Paolo Falanghina 2004
region: Campania
Drink it!
This straw-colored white wine is bursting with flavors of Golden
Delicious apples, pears and pineapple, with a hint of candied lemon.
Campania’s ancient Falanghina grape presents great acidity here, and
finishes with a subtle undertone of mineral and stone.
Pair it!
In honor of Campania’s expansive coastline, try the pale Falanghina with
seafood pasta in a light cream sauce. |

The wine: Librandi Cirò Rosso
Riserva Duca San Felice DOC 2001
region: Calabria
Drink It!
One
of Calabria’s most significant DOC wines is Cirò, named for a town on
the Ionian coast that dates back to the ancient Greeks. According to
local legend, Cirò descended directly from Krimisa, the wine that
Calabrian athletes
drank to
celebrate their victories at the Olympic Games.
The Librandi wine estate, which has been managed by ten generations of
the Bressan family, is located in Ciró Marina. Situated between the sea
and the Sila Mountains, the area is ideal for growing grapes.
This Riserva is made from 100% Gaglioppo: a robust and
hearty native grape that thrives in the hot, dry conditions of southern
Italy. It’s a
full-bodied wine with fruity aromas followed by hints of
chocolate and spicy flavors.
Pair It!
Pair this flavorful wine with stewed or braised meats, or a hearty
risotto. |
