At the Table of Rossini,
Verdi and Puccini
We know all about the very different masterpieces of these great musicians;
they have given and will continue to give joy to the world forever, but we
know very little about their food preferences. Rossini was also a great
chef, Verdi a gourmand and Puccini a great lover of simple Tuscan
cuisine—their tastes were obviously also very different!
Paolo met with experts and filmed and recorded his visits to make this
lecture more interesting and entertaining.
“I was born into a family of musicians and passionate opera singers;
music was much more than the background of my youth, but I discovered the
eating habits of the great masters only when I visited their homes and
talked to experts.”
“Did you know that in Parma there is a club of men who each specialize in
one opera of Giuseppe Verdi?”
“When he was in Paris, Puccini would ask his mother for, ‘some olive oil
and white kidney beans!’ Rossini conquered Paris with his incredible dinners
and great music.”
